Samarkand Stitches #III , 1988

Unique fabric assemblage with screenprinting

154.9 x 116.8 cm (61 x 46 in.)

Ikat silk and domestic fabrics

Edition: 74 plus 2 DP, NGA, RRF, C

Fabrication Notes:
Ikat silk fabrics imported from Samarkand were sewn together with domestic fabrics that had been screenprinted with photographic images taken during the artist's travels to the former Soviet Union. The random ink colors and the assortment of Ikat fabrics are the unique elements among the individually assembled textiles. The pieces are backed with assemblages of domestic fabrics. A hanging rod of powder-coated aluminum runs through a fabric band on the top back side allowing each piece to be displayed suspended from the ceiling or against the wall.

Edition Printing:
Larry Mantello, James Reid, Darlene Scramuzza, Claudio Stickar, Robin Taylor

Remarks:
Fabric assembly was by Willy Bietak Productions. Each piece has an embroidered signature tag sewn to the front and an embroidered Gemini identification tag sewn on the verso. The cancellation proof is on Rives BFK White paper.
